Word Class Auction

IGCSE Edition · Verbs, Adjectives & Adverbs · Y10 Unit 4 (L16–L17)

How to play: Each team gets a budget. A sentence is shown with a claim about one word in it — is the word class right, and is the claim about its effect right? Teams bid on whether the claim is ✓ TRUE or ✗ FALSE (they can bid on both, to hedge). Right bids are paid back from the pot; wrong bids lose that stake. Richest team at the end wins!

Statements

24 statements drawn directly from the real L16/L17 source material: Table 4.3's "Aisha" shopping-mall text, the WB Night Scene text (L16's backup extension / L18), and Table 4.4's connotation groupings. Word-class identification (verb/adjective/adverb) plus a few connotation checks. Order is shuffled every game.
